Description
Croissant French toast casserole layers buttery croissants soaked in a cinnamon-vanilla custard and baked until golden. This dish is ideal for brunches or festive family breakfasts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 12 medium-sized croissants, one day old preferred
- 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup butter, thinly sliced
- ⅓ cup Canadian maple syrup
- Additional ingredients for dusting: ground cinnamon and vanillin sugar
- Optional serving suggestions: powdered sugar, ice cream, additional maple syrup, and fresh fruit
Instructions
- Lightly coat a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt using a whisk until well mixed.
- Slice croissants in half horizontally and place the bottom halves into the greased dish evenly spaced out.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the croissant bottoms followed by a drizzle of maple syrup for added sweetness.
- Position the top halves of the croissants on top and pour any remaining egg mixture to cover them thoroughly.
- Cover your assembled dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes or overnight to allow flavors to meld.
- When you’re ready to bake this creation, bring it back to room temperature for about 30 minutes before proceeding.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (175°C) while waiting for your dish.
- Sprinkle slices of butter across the top along with some cinnamon and vanillin sugar for extra flavor enhancement.
- Bake in preheated oven for approximately 45-50 minutes until golden brown; if browning too quickly occurs during baking time, use foil as needed for protection from excess heat exposure.
- Serve warm alongside powdered sugar dusting or garnished with ice cream and fresh fruit based on preference when it’s time to enjoy!
Notes
