What’s Chamomile Tea?

For those who ask about this miracle herbal tea, the answer is so simple.

Chamomile tea is a herbal tea made from dried chamomiles. Chamomile is used to make tea dates back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians used chamomile tea as a remedy for colds and flu. And gradually, chamomile tea is considered a drink to help you sleep.

Many modern scientific studies have also demonstrated the actual effectiveness of chamomile tea in treating the flu as well as helping us sleep better. And chamomile has also been shown to have other applications in beauty and health.

German vs Roman Chamomile

Do you know how many chamomile tea types which are selling in the market?

There are two different varieties of chamomile plants that are used in making this herbal drink. These include the German chamomile (Matricaria recutit) and Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile).

The two plants are technically different, but they fall under the same name “chamomile” and are both used in treating similar health problems. However, German chamomile is the commonly used plant of the two.

Chamomile Tea vs. Green Tea vs. Peppermint Tea

Chamomile tea is a Western herbal tea, while green tea is Eastern true tea. Caffeine-free chamomile tea promotes relaxation and sleep quality; green tea helps you maintain alertness in the morning because it contains caffeine and supports metabolism.

People find that chamomile tea is more pleasant to drink than green tea because of its mild, floral flavor and aroma.

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, chamomile tea helps fade spots, heals acne scars and prevents breakouts. It also contains a lot of antioxidants which supports the skin against aging process.

When Shouldn’t You Use Chamomile Tea?

Pregnancy: There have been no studies showing that chamomile tea has negative effects on pregnancy. But some experts suggest avoiding chamomile tea or you need to consult your doctor for more advice when you want to drink chamomile tea during pregnancy.

After surgery: Chamomile contains a tiny amount of coumarin that can prevent blood clotting. So you should stop drinking chamomile tea a few weeks before and after the surgery.

  1. Hi. On #11 the davidson’s bulk chamomile tea, you had it was german chamomile. There are 3 pics for the tea bag. If you look at the 3rd pic, it says ingredients: egyptian chamomile. So its not german. I noticed it because i had just been looking at it on amazon. I read that egyptian is the best one in an article. So maybe its even better than the german. See what you can find out, if possible and i’ll read it. Fyi. Thanks

    1. Dear Linz,

You are most certainly right. I don’t know how that mistake happened. Probably my autocorrect wanted to play along 🙂
The tea is, as you say, Egyptian.
Thank you again for pointing this out.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.
      Loves, Amanda.
